This library guide serves as one place for you to start learning about Open Access (OA) publishing! It includes information about OA publishing models, how to locate OA publications, and the status of OA in information ecosystems.

Key terms

Article Processing Charge (APC)APCs are fees paid by authors or institutions to publishers in order to make an article open access. The idea is that this covers costs for peer review, editing, and hosting, while replacing revenue for traditional subscription models. 

Scholarly Communication: The concept of "scholarly communication(s)" includes the cycle of academic research creation, publication, dissemination, and discovery.
