Getting Started with OER: Checklist

We suggest that you

  • Join the Minnesota State OER Community Site

Managed by the Minnesota State Network for Educational Development (NED) offers, this Sharepoint community portal should be at the top of your priority list. While you can access it in your browser, you can also use it in your Teams application, where it is called SO-OER Community-Team.

  • Pick some OER webinars to attend through NED

There are many ways to find meetings for the OER Community Conversations and OER Showcase webinars. For ease, here is the ASA calendar with the search term "OER" included. There are also OER FAQ meetings -- bring your questions!

NED also hosts webinars about the Open Education Network (OEN) and their open textbook review program. Even though this program is run through the OEN, which is through the University of Minnesota, Minnesota State faculty are also welcomed to participate. If you need extra incentive -- attend the webinars, learn about OERs, and complete an open review of a book to receive $200!

  • Consider joining a summer OER Learning Circle

Feel ready to redevelop a course around OER, to update an existing OER-focused course, or to author an OER course resource of your own? Keep your eyes open each year for NED's OER Learning Circle summer cohorts. There may be options for participants to receive compensation in the form of release credit equivalency (RCE).
